Regulations for Cemetery Decorations


1. Supervision of Cemetery

The Building & Grounds committee (here after referred to as The Committee) reserves

the right to enforce all rules and regulations adopted by St. Gall Church.

Rules & Regulations may be amended and/or revised by The Committee at any time.


2. General Rules

Unacceptable behavior, inappropriate dress, and foul language will not be permitted on

the cemetery grounds at anytime.

No alcoholic beverages are permitted in the cemetery.

Pets are not permitted in the cemetery.

The Cemetery Flag is the sole responsibility of The Committee and is not to be raised or

lowered without explicit permission from The Committee.


3. Grave Adornments

The planting of trees and shrubs and any other woody plants are prohibited.

Natural and Artificial flowers are permitted in approved locations and containers.

Containers of the following sizes are permitted. Pots 6 to 8 inches, Boxes – not

exceeding 18 inches in length, 6 inches in height, 8 inches in width. All containers should

be of plastic or wood construction with ample drainage. They should be placed on the

marker, or on the ground in front of the head stone. Annuals may be planted in the

ground, in an area no larger than 12” wide by 36” long, directly in front of the head stone.

The Committee will remove all annuals during the Fall clean up. Damaged containers

and faded artificial flowers will be discarded by the committee.

Artificial flowers are permitted on all graves in approved permanent vases. In ground

metal vases are permitted and must have a hole in the bottom, so that water will drain

out.

All forms of decorations not specifically permitted herein will be removed including: jars,

bottles, cans, statuary, ornaments, easels, balloons, pinwheels, and similar items. Grave

blankets, shepherd hooks, fences, decorative stone and border edging are strictly

prohibited.

Candles of any kind are not permitted.

Small US flags may be placed in planters with plants, in the ground next to the head

stone, and also in approved permanent vases.

Evergreen blankets or grave coverings are not permitted at any time.

Spring and Fall clean up occurs on or about March 1, and on or about November 1,

respectively. All decorations should be removed prior to these dates. The Committee

will remove and dispose of old/weathered decorations at these times. After the Fall clean

up, artificial wreaths no more than 30 inches in diameter placed on stands, are permitted.

Any decoration not mentioned above needs to be approved by The Committee prior to

placement.

The Committee encourages the careful placement of decorations. We regret that we

cannot guarantee that all decorations will be free from damage or loss, and we cannot

accept responsibility for these occurrences. All decorations must be in good taste and

should not be the dominant feature at the gravesite. The Committee reserves the right to

remove any decoration that is unsightly and/or does not meet the rules outlined above.

All rules and regulations not covered by St. Gall parish are covered by the Rockford

Diocese cemetery rules.
