Altar & Rosary Society

All women of our St. Gall parish family are automatically considered members of "The Altar & Rosary Society," and are cordially invited and encouragd to participate in our activities. We pray with advanced planning and sufficient notice you will find it possible and rewarding to be a part of, and in support of, our programs. In so many ways today's Catholic Woman is vastly different from the founders or our society. More often than not she is in the workplace and has many more demands on her time and energies than her predecessors. We readily recognize these facts; however, we also recognize the fact that her need for her Church and her Church's need for her have very likely INCREASED.

What we represent is implied in our name. We respond to the "Altar" part of our name by being financially responsible for the purchase of what is needed in in the sanctuary such as candles, altar linens, and flowers. We also launder and maintain the linens and provide for the cleaning of the sanctuary on a weekly basis.

The "Rosary" portion of our commitment sees our group organizing the leading of the Rosary after each Monday morning Mass. We also encourage devotion to the Rosary by displaying our statue of the Pilgrim Virgin, which is a representation of Our Lady of Fatima.

We sponsor the following major fund raising events:
The Elburn Days Garage & Bake Sale
St Patrick's Day Turkey Dinner

Another activity under our sponsorship includes:

School Supplies for Kids
In July our Reverse Collection has slips for "School Supplies for Kids" instead of our usual food slips for the Food Pantry. "School Supplies for Kids" is sponsored by the Rockford Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in conjunction with the National Council of Catholic Women. Catholic Charities needed school supplies for all the children with whom they come in contact. They might be foster children, refugee children, children-at-risk or some other category that required intervention. New school supplies can give a child self-esteem. When you have to start school with used items and it seems like everyone else has new supplies it can hurt. These items are brought by caring parishioners to church on the last weekend of July and delivered to Catholic Charities soon after.
