Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe - November 24

Picture
In his responses to Pilate’s questions, Jesus distinguishes his kingdom from the political powers of this world. King and kingdom may be appropriate terms for Jesus’ mission and promise, but only by analogy. Jesus is king, but not the kind of king we imagine or expect. He was certainly not the kind of king Pilate feared he might be.

Jesus refers to a kingdom that does not belong to this world. This has been mentioned earlier in John’s Gospel. Recall that in his prayer during the Last Supper discourse (see John 17:6-18), Jesus prayed for his disciples who are in the world but do not belong to the world.

Jesus Remember Me Music for the Recorder

RECORDER MUSIC

Picture

Does your child have a recorder at home? Did they learn how to play it in school? Do they want to learn? Grade 5 students in Faith Formation have been learning the song, Jesus Remember Me, that is sung on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. It is pretty simple although it contains flats. I created a page with the fingering for a recorder! Of course, we are learning to sign it, too.

Young and old (or older!) can give this simple instrument a try! I have been learning how to play the tin flute and have added the recorder to my instruments! Learning to play music is so beneficial!

Peace and all good, Donna Doherty

Mary of Nazareth (Formed.org)

This movie is geared for teens to adults. Families can use the following clip for lessons on Baptism and evangelization.

Families:
Start the movie at 51 minutes. Watch the scene (ends at 55 minutes) as the shepherds visit the baby, Jesus in the stable (ends at 55 minutes). Mary gives Jesus to the shepherds and they pass Him around the room. What do you see? Is Joseph nervous? Is he protecting Jesus and Mary? Do you see the joy of the shepherds and their families? You became a part of Jesus family at your Baptism in a special way. How does that change your life?

This is Mary's job! She was chosen to carry Jesus to us. Mary and Joseph loved and taught Jesus as he grew in age and wisdom. We are called by our baptism to be like Jesus and share Him with others. So we need to take care of our little faith (like a baby) so that it can grow. We are called to grow in age and wisdom, too! Give Jesus to someone today! Our faith should show in what we do and say. Let's try to learn, pray and grow!
