The Eucharist awakens us to our own dignity and to that of others.

The Eucharist is a sign of our incomparable dignity as human persons. This dignity, given to all equally, regardless of our social or economic status or where we come from (Jas 2:1-9), causes us to recognize “what value each person, our brother or sister, has in God’s eyes, if Christ offers Himself equally to each one. . . . If our Eucharistic worship is authentic, it must make us grow in awareness of the dignity of each person,” Pope John Paul II writes (Dominicae Cenae [On the Mystery and Worship of the Eucharist], no. 6).

What happens in the Mass?

Participation in the Eucharist “heals our relationships with God, with ourselves, with others and with the world,” and therefore affects “the whole week, and motivates us to greater concern for nature and the poor” (Pope Francis, Laudato Si’ [On Care for Our Common Home], no. 237).

Fr. Max gives a short explanation of the parts of the Mass as he prays a Saturday daily Mass. The daily Mass does not include music. You can also hear some of the prayers that Fr. Max says that you would miss if we were singing. During the Presentation of the Gifts prayers, we respond Blessed be God forever.

FIRST COMMUNION - HOW DO I RECEIVE JESUS?

Picture

Watch this video with your child and review how to receive the Body and Blood of Christ to prepare for their First Communion!

Picture
EUCHARIST
You can receive the Eucharist on the tongue or in the hand.
But how do you do that properly?

Watch the video by clicking on Sacraments 101.

· Walk up to receive with hands folded and bow.
· Stand close enough so the Priest can reach you.
· Priest: The Body of Christ. You: Amen.
· In the hand:  Make a throne. Cup your hands with the dominant hand on the bottom.
· On the tongue:  Either kneel or stand, open your mouth and stick out your tongue a bit.  Tilting your head to look up a bit helps!
· Step to the side and make the Sign of the Cross as you look at the cross above the altar.

Practice at home with small crackers!
