Chapter 3 - Jesus, Sign of God's Love

During class, we talked about God's love and John 3:16. God made a covenant with us and he keeps his promises even if we don't! God send his son to save us. God gave Moses the 10 Commandments and Jesus gives us the new commandment to love one another as he has loved us. We looked at the mezuzah (meaning doorpost) which contains the shema in Deuteronomy 6:4-9. We are reminded to love God with all our heart, soul and strength just like the Hebrews. They are told to impress them on their children, think about loving God all day and night and even to wear this command on their wrist or forehead. The Jewish people today still put the mezuzah on the door frames. They kiss their fingers and touch the mezuzah as they enter the house or room. It renews their commitment to love God above all things.

Shema means hear and understand in Hebrew. It is hear, listen and do. Would that change how you act? Your house is a domestic church. God lives there! Many houses have a cross or crucifix in each room to help them remember how to love God and love one another!

Opening Lesson - A New Year

St. Therese and St. Jerome can help us to understand ways that we can be holy and serve God - right where we are. There are little ways and big ways to show holiness. This year, we explore the heroes of our faith. In the Old Testament, there are stories of people who tried and failed to live a good life. They made mistakes. They sinned. How did God respond? God continues to show us He is still faithful today. Where do you see miracles? They can be little and big. If you love God, how will you show it? How will others see it? Do you know someone who tries to be holy? What do they do?

What's YOUR secret sauce for holiness?
