May is Mental Health Awareness Month
Mental health is just as important as physical health. There are different types of mental illness including but not limited to anxiety, depression, PTSD, or bipolar disorder. Anyone of any age, race or socioeconomic status can be affected. You are not alone and can receive treatment from a medical professional such as a doctor, nurse or social worker. If you or someone you know is in crisis, contact the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or dial 911 in case of emergency.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? …Therefore, glorify God in your body.
(1 Cor. 6:19-20)

The mission of St. Gall’s Health & Wellness Ministry is to assist the church in ministering to the whole person, integrating physical, spiritual, emotional, mental, and social health and wellness. This ministry emphasizes the wholeness of body, mind, and spirit of individual parishioners, as well as the parish community. The ministry requires a collaborative effort that includes individuals interested in health and wellness and healthcare providers in the community. Are you called to help?

What is the mission of the St. Gall Health & Wellness Ministry?

Why a health and wellness ministry?

The need to address the health and wellness of our parish community is critical. Chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and arthritis, are responsible for 7 out of 10 deaths each year and account for most of our community’s health care costs. Chronic diseases are not only among the most common of all health problems, but they are among the most preventable (CDC). While there are many programs and resources in our community to address chronic diseases and other health problems, they fall short of quelling this growing problem in our community. These programs and resources most often are not equipped to address the whole person. Our church is uniquely suited to administer to the whole person by addressing spiritual, physical, emotional, mental, and social determinants that impact an individual’s health. Through the parish’s Health & Wellness Ministry, members of our community can proactively address their health and learn to prevent health problems that can affect the rest of their being.

How can YOU help with the health and wellness of our parish community?

  • Help with Blood Pressure Screenings
  • Teach a class related to health and wellness
  • Assist with Health & Wellness events
  • Make suggestions for programs and services you would like to see offered
  • Serve on the Health & Wellness Ministry Team

Three Shareworthy Things Fun fact: Three is the number of completion, expressive of a beginning, a middle, and an end. In Christian symbolism, three is the Divine number suggesting the Trinity -- and the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph.

Three is featured numerous times in the Bible, and in my weirdness I looked up a few (I had no intention of doing this when I started this message): the wise men offered the Christ child gold, frankincense & myrrh (Matthew 2:11); Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life." (John 14:6); there are three theological virtues, faith, hope & love, "So faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13); Peter denied Jesus three times (Matthew 26, Mark 14; Luke 22; John 18); there were three hours of darkness as Jesus suffered on the cross (Matthew 27:45); and Jesus spent three days in the tomb. I'm sure there are many more, but these are likely those memorable to most Christians.

Why did I share them? In this morning's class, I mentioned that certain things are done for a reason in Pietra Fitness. Pietra Fitness instructors will regularly use three repetitions as a small way of honoring the Blessed Trinity and the Holy Family. We also aim to strengthen your mind, body & soul. We focus on posture, breath and muscle engagement. I could go on and on but I'll move on!
Forgiveness: Today's Holy Family School of Faith Rosary on forgiveness is outstanding! Please do yourself the favor of praying along with this meditation. The HFSofF Rosary meditation is not your typical Rosary; I have learned so much about our faith from these meditations, and highly recommend subscribing and/or becoming a member. If you think you're "too busy" to do a daily Rosary, fear not -- say it while you're driving, walking, doing laundry, getting ready for the day, etc. Mary is waiting for you to join her, don't let her down!

“Go to Joseph”:
If you are doing the Consecration to St. Joseph during this Year of St. Joseph, check out this interview with Fr. Donald H. Calloway on The Catholic Talk Show. When I'm working I listen to either podcasts or Andrea Bocelli. Yesterday it was podcasts and that's how I landed on this one. The Catholic Talk Show is a fun and informative web show and podcast.

Zoom Series
My next Zoom series starts March 16 & you'll need to pre-register if you'd like to receive the weekly reminder email and join one or more classes.

If you have not been receiving the weekly email it's because your waiver has expired -- complete this online waiver to be included in that email and participate in the class. Those who are already on my weekly email need not complete the waiver again.

If you have a valid waiver, you'll receive a separate email to preregister.

"If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions." ~ Matthew 6:14-15.
