Our Local Work
What We Do
The St. Gall Chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society serves the poor in our community in many ways. The personal home visit conducted by a team of Vincentians can result in assistance such as securing clothing or furniture and appliances; gas cards and food cards; and/or assistance with rent, mortgage, moving, school supplies, medical and utility bills.
Members of our local chapter donate their time and talent in fund raising events which include Donut Sundays, St. Nicholas Breakfast, and a Walk for the Poor. Once per month, members also assist at the Elburn Food Pantry by picking up food at Jewel and deliver it to the pantry. They also deliver holiday meals to their Friends in Need who request those meals. Not all events are fund raisers. The Society also sponsors Trunk or Treat, the St. Nicholas Day treat bags distributed to youngsters and a game at the parish picnic.
From October 2022 to October 2023 we served 140 families, totaling 398 people; we were able to assist with $45,258.04 thanks to the generous donation of parishioners.

On the National Level
Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.
As a reflection of the whole family of God, members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Vincentians are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility and sharing, which is nourished by prayer and reflection, mutually supportive gatherings and adherence to a basic Rule.
Organized locally, Vincentians witness God's love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.

Support Our Mission
Do you feel the call to serve?
No special requirements are needed besides your desire to help those who are in need. You can help by joining the SVdP Society as a volunteer. Volunteers who make home visits determine the amount of financial, physical and spiritual assistance to those friends in need they have visited. Our St. Gall Chapter meets the 2nd Thursday each month and the last Sunday morning each month for a fund raising event called Donut Sunday.
If you'd like to help but don't have the time, you can still do so by contributing generously to SVdP through your Sunday collection envelope; through a donation in the Alms box located in the church foyer; by attending one of our Donut Sunday events and making a contribution for your donut, coffee, juice and fruit; or by contributing to any of our local walkers during the "Friends of the Poor Walk" each autumn.
If you have any questions about volunteering, please leave a message on our answering service at 331-348-9654.
